"I think I spent about $30 or so on the different clays and the can. About $10 on the pipe and fittings for the burner, and then took the propane tank off my grill."

Have you tryed melting brass in this? I want to make a simple burner so I can melt brass or bronze, so need about 1000degrees celcius. Do you use a crucible or how do you place the metal?

Nope, haven't tried brass or bronze. You might try the ABYMC website... Association of Backyard Metal Casters. That's where I got most of my questions answered when I started out. Good luck!

How much does it cost to make one of those furnaces, anyway?
