Reels made in Japan are very high quality to say the least. They make shimano Stella's there!

well i think abu is better you think shimano is better, its all on personal prefrence

also i have had some abu garcia round reels in my hand and they were not so smooth at all, im just happy that i fished a good round shimano before i bought a round abu.. thats my opinion.

the calcutta is made in japan

japan = top quality and top performance

i own a calcutta and i must say yes the acces to the vbs is not so good as the models before, but i dont really mind because i just use 1 of the 6 vbs pins all the time. the reel feels super solid and casts a bomb with 100g + (i use the 401D) i have also a revo mgx and i find it feeling quite cheep, though it is a very good reel but it just doesnt feel so solid as a good shimano reel.

i like shimano and dawia both but i just belive that shimano messed up with this reel not worth $300 more like $150 look at the c3 made in sweden one of the best reels made for $100
