Hi, My name is Tamara Ocuto. I'm a Career Counselor at TSD, Texas School for the Deaf. On Nov. 12th, we will have an event here called "College Day". In the morning, there will be workshops and activities for our students. One of the workshops that I want to take advantage of, is about covering different jobs that Deaf people have, preferably unique jobs-- meaning not the typical jobs that most Deaf people possess, such as teachers or dorm staff at Deaf schools, and so forth. I'm looking for those who possess unique positions that most Deaf individuals usually do not have due to communication barriers. For example: on YouTube, I watched a vlog about a Deaf man who shared his experience obtaining a job a pizza delivery driver. He explained that at first the employer was reluctant about hiring him because of his deafness as he didn't think he would be able to communicate with customers. The deaf man convinced the employer to agree to a 2-week trial. The agreement was that if he didn't meet his expectations, he would gladly resign out of respect for the employer. After the 2-week trial, he proved to be successful as a pizza delivery driver and his employer was more than satisfied. He ended up being with the pizza company for about 3 years. That's the kind of story I'm looking for. If you have had similar experiences/struggles with your hearing employer or company and was able to overcome obstacles, please share your story with me. If you can create a vlog of your experience, please send it to me so I can share with the students. If you have any questions, send me a message through Facebook. Thank you.
Hi, I'm hearing but I think this video could be very helpful? :). My friend wanted to start an ASL TV channel. I think her dream is so cool. In my entire computer science career I've worked a blind guy, seen a guy or two in wheel chairs but no deafies. I don't see a logical reason deafies couldn't work in my area before ... We'd have to accomodate them and they'd have pains at meetings ... (They'd have unfair advantage because meetings waste time.)

Hello, I saw your video, however I can't find you on facebook. There are a few Tamara O's on fb and I can't identify which one is your account. I am currently a Graduate Hall Director at a hearing University. I'm not sure if this is the type of job your students would like to hear about. Please do send me a message if you're interested in hearing more about my story. Best of luck with obtaining more vlogs!
