The governor of Texas (the Lone Star State), Governor Rick Perry (Republican) on August 6, 2011 in Houston's Reliant Stadium will participate (sponsor) in a national day of prayer and fasting. A group calling itself "The Freedom From Religion Foundation attempt in Federal Court to block Governor Rick Perry's participation in the event. The group citing what they call "the establishment" clause of the First Amendment (part of "The Bill of Rights") to the United States Constitution written by the fifty-five delegates to the U.S. Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1787.

However U. S. District Judge Gray H. Miller refused to approve a requested injunction to prohibit Governor Perry from participating in the event. Apparently the judge is familiar with the First Amendment whereas The Freedom From Religion Foundation seems to be lacking equal knowledge.

The First Amendment in reference to religion reads: "Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion or prohibit the free exercise thereof....."

Many militant extreme Atheist and indoctrinators in USA's re-education camps (public schools) purposely omit the part, "....or prohibit the free exercise thereof." Basically the Founders inserted that clause to guarantee freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. When the men from the Constitutional Convention went on into government afterwards they attended religious services on Sundays in the Treasury Building, the Supreme Court Building, and the Capitol Building.

Does that mean the men who wrote that First Amendment violated the very document they authored? Do not think so. One should judge the meaning of the First Amendment by the actions of the men who wrote it and perish the thought, read The Federalist Papers. The Federalist Papers written to explain the intent of various sections of the Constitution to help alleviate the fears of the 13 State Governments prior to ratification.

In 21st century America thanks to thirty-years of anti-constitutional indoctrinations (brain washing) taking place in America's educational institutions, it is rather easy for militant heathen Atheist to attempt such a ridiculous injunction. Thank God the Federal Judge is familiar with the Constitution and not one of them thar activists judges the American judicial system is plagued with.

The organization is suing because it is very much being promoted by a figure in public office, which is thus a government endorced promotion of religion. The organization could care less if it was a public event being promoted by a private organization. I agree with you on the slippery slope thing, which is why it is very simple, just keep government out of religion.

  • Wow this guy is a douche bag. Go blow it out your ass you fucking religious nut, nobody wants to hear your bronze age nonsense.

  • atheism is protected under the first amendment, yet still we are an opressed minority. If someone made a video bashing jews and posted it here, they'd be rightfully called a racist, yet somehow it's fine to bash atheists.

  • Being an atheist has NOTHING to do with fighting an idiot like RIck Perry, Republican, from mixing religion & politics. Rick PRAYED for rain.. we got fire. Rick prayed for unemployment in Texas.. it went higher. Point being PRAYER IS A WASTE OF TIME & DOESN'T WORK!! Rick Perry, Republican, needs to get off his ass & DO SOMETHING about our problems in Texas instead of praying for them to disappear!

  • Oh, and just an afterthought, I would happily sue for however much of my tax dollars are going to fund the whitehouse "chaplain" (who is monotheistic) and the congressional "chaplain" (also monotheistic). Why don't I file a claim? Well, I have the rent paid, utilities paid, and just enough to buy a couple sets of guitar strings. No organization is backing me, so I'm screwed. I don't like that I pay the salary of govt employees whose only purpose is to be a preacher. THAT violates MY freedom.

  • I'm secure in my atheism. I have wished there was a god, but logic prevents me from believing in one. Using his platform as governor to promote a specific religion does violate the est. clause of the first amendment, which prohibits state and federal governments from "favoring one religion over another". Now it doesn't say they can't verbally favor faith in general, and if he just said "lets have a national day of prayer", he'd be fine, but he had to throw in "like Jesus did". He's in the wrong.

  • Is this guy for real? Brain damage maybe?

  • @33k72 So what the hell does this have to do with the issue this guy was talking about? You are right it is definitely protected by the constitution, but the point is that government should stay out of religion. If Perry wants to pray he should do it in private.

  • @11hani11

Don't waste your energy on this because the two recent court rulings religion is separate but cannot be discriminated against if an elected official is Christian, atheists or Muslim he cannot be barred from running for office and they are free to stay there beliefs in God or without God without being kicked out of office. And here's two Supreme Court rulings Torcaso v. Watkins and Everson v. Board of Education

  • @11hani11

You missed my point since atheism is categorized as a religion it must be separate from the government a.k.a. the US government funded school systems AKA evolution.

  • @33k72 Well yeah I'm an atheist! Rick Perry shouldn't have done this national day of prayer thing. Seperation of church and state... this guy is a fucking moron!
