  • Ive been building a robot from the very same model Hoveround. do you use your own controller or have you adapted the chair's controller?. The thing is so strong Ive used it to pull my boat trailer out and used it to pull my lawnmower around the yard

  • @jrocco36 the motor controller is a "sabertooth 2x12" the batteries were swapped to parallel 12v. it's quite enough speed and increases run time, the sabertooth states it can handle up to 24v but in series the batteries are over 24v when fully charged. I'd recommend adding a set of relays to the motor lines to fully disconnect them when the power is off, if you move it while the power is off it can quickly burn out the controller. you can also modify the stock unit for use with an MCU.

  • @tainted69jay Thanks for the replay. I will check out the Sabertooth looks cool. I using a RC servos to move the joystick one for the X and one for the Y. when I did it I wasnt sure if i wanted to make a robot or sell the chair so I tried not to modify it too much. I plan to make a Dalek body for mine. I will post a video of mine going through its paces. BTW like the camera feature.

  • @jrocco36 lol @ the DALEK body, I had the same idea! there are almost no hard mods required to use any system. the system I went with would allow me to go back to stock at any time. the stock controller uses spade terminals on a terminal block to connect. just remove the cover where the controller goes in and viola! there are the connections. there is also a hookup diagram under that cover to tell you where the stock unit goes in case you want it back to stock.
