One of the most recognizable components of Biblical verse is that of parallelism. A thought or idea expressed in one line is restated in different words in the next. The device can used to present synonymous parallelism or contrasting parallelism. Here in both the Baal Cycle and the Hebrew Bible's Psalms, the poetic device is utilized for religious purposes. Once again, the beliefs that were shared throughout the ancient Near East are illustrated through these two texts, providing more insight into the Hebrew Bible.

  • If you will read the Sumerian tablets translation, there are parallelism all throughout the texts. Conclusion? Biblical texts and stories have their source from the Sumerian history.

  • True, there are some influences that be traced to Sumeria but there are other influences as well, like Egyptian, Canaanite and Babylonian to mention just a few. The text here was translated from the Ugaritic. It's important to recognize the influence the Israelite's neighbors had on their culture and religious experience.

  • How about a warning first helvis213? Those flashes would give the blind a migraine.

  • Cool find, man. I've noticed many parallels between holy writings of all ages and regions. It does make me think that if you singled out all the parallels that perhaps those are the real truth that the ancients wanted us to know.
