Great job putting that together. 2/3 through the video, my wife comes in and says, What are listening too?!"

Mastering masters please give us back the magic of dynamics!

@Ruflcopta It should be illegal for Metallica to bring out a shit album like Death Magnetic you mean......

Lots of audio experts in here: How did they achieve the futuristic guitar sound in Somewhere in Time? I don't mean the guitar synth. That sound is one of my favorites, it's still unique to this day.

@Ruflcopta And because the songs are so shit

It should be illegal to charge for an album like Metallica's Death Magnetic with the way it was mastered.

VINYL RULE

Back in the days it sounded clearer than nowadays :P

@terran236 ahh, ok I totally agree!

@powerman923 Just showing how Iron maiden doesn't mix overly loud that it starts sounding distorted and lifeless. Contrast from new music, the waves would look like square walls. Too loud and no dynamics. As in no difference from soft and loud parts, less emotion.
I bough DJ Tiesto's "Elements Of Life" album yesterday and the quality is very very bad. The song's waveforms are just straight lines.

@Gigidag77 It can suck out the life out of electronic music too. I guess that's the easiest way to control levels for a long mix, but for an album, makes no sense :) I can recommend the "Forbidden Paradise" mix CDs, some are done by Tiesto (number 8 is good), but I like number 11 most, really dark and a nice sound.

Are the white lines the 100% threshold?
Because its hard to believe that any record companies would allow that much clipping on any production. Its relatively easy to avoid clipping altogether when remastering audio, so I couldn't imagine that much clipping being introduced.
