Rising food prices were one reason behind the wave of anti-government demonstrations in North Africa and the Middle East. The UN has warned of impending social upheaval in countries that are quite literally hungry for freedom. The issue is also creeping into the U.S. where food stamp programmes are being slashed.

  • "We haven't gotten sick and tired of being sick and tired yet. But when we get there.....watch out." One thing i've learned about the American people, they are smart and you cannot get over on them for long periods of time. This could occur for long periods of time in other 3rd world countries. But I don't think this will fly for too much longer in a country like the US. Should be interesting.

  • Its all hitting the fan. We made a bad turn years ago. And now we're feeling the effects. This is the WRONG time to use FOOD for FUEL. Maybe if we enhance our food programs it would be possible. Things were good in the 90s. But these days we are reaping some heavy moral consequences. Hang on for the ride. We may not be able to climb out of this one. Money will become useless if this keeps up.

  • the world is screwed . stop making fuel from food

  • Was that american or africa? I didn't see a singel american.

  • Yes countries of the Middle East... Learn from Egypt and replace your governments with juntas. You wont regret it. Especially because everyone in the Middle East is completely rational and they all get along so well. That is until they start imposing their will and there's nothing you can do because NOW you're fighting the military. I'm surprised there's no mention about how this is somehow Israels fault.

  • @intezam

why would someone who grows food pick a fight with the people that eat it? there is growing demand, but it is driven by alternative fules. this is what happens when we try to turn corn into fule. and it's not the bankers the screwed the economy, it was the government regulators. this is not the place for lengthy discussion but Canada's banking system is much freer thant America's and it's currency was basicly unaffected by the recent economic events.

  • FREEDOM FROM BANKERS AND INDUSTRIAL COOPORATE PIGS!!!!!!

  • After the bankers fucked up the our economies with their hegde fund shadow banking, they started to speculate now with raw food products. They are lying when they say it's because of "growing demand". Growing demand - my ass!! They now fight against the PEOPLE. This ain't a conspiracy- These people obviously don't need to conspirate in order to do what they are doing. It's time to TAKE THEM DOWN!

  • Dollar Devaluation, we must stop this madness!!!
