The Dreamer covers Grammywinner Thomas Quasthoffs most important career-steps and the way to his lifetime dream -- to become an Opera singer on stage - by using footage of private moments, performances, rehearsals (opera, recital, Jazz) and photos from the early eighties until now. For the first time ever he publicly talks about the hardships of his childhood, of having to live in a special home for handicapped children in germany, of being ridiculed and of the loneliness that comes with it. Quasthoff`s story was witnessed by the film's director Michael Harder. Colleagues, fellow musicians and admirers, but also his family and his friends talk about their love and support for the extraordinary singer. The film shares delivers an exclusive backstage view of the world's most famous venues by showing rehearsals as well as performances. ‚The Dreamer' is a gripping and touching story about one man's journey into the light.

This looks like a fantastic documentary and truly a beautiful and inspirational story. Thomas Quasthoff is one of my favourite performers and indeed his story is nonetheless astounding for what he's acheived. A real miracle.

I "met" Quasthoff when watching his "Watch What Happens" video on the DG channel and then I started to find out more about him. Since then he has become my personal true hero and inspiration, and though I know I won't be a singer, but maybe a musician, Quasthoff has made me to love the Romantic lieder and love even more the classical music. I really hope to met him in person; that would be more than just fantastic.

There was on youtube a video of a Thomas Quasthoff interview where he sings a Popular Song in German and accompained by a man playing a kind of little guitar. I cannot find ths video... anyone know about it?
