Salar de Uyuni (Salt Plains of Uyuni), Bolivia, is a UNESCO listed site and with an area of 9,000 sq km, it is said to be the biggest salt lake on earth and one of the flattest as well. A hard 7m layer of salt sits on top of several meters of salt water at the bottom of the lake. It is located on the south of La Paz, closer to the Chile border.
