  • I used to live in Nashville and got to know him very well the time that i lived there, He used to pay me to get him food, drink's ect.. on a regular basis while he was preforming.

He told me that he has a daughter that lives in Arizona that wanted nothing to do with him, I never quite understood why though.

He was always wanting to get back in a studio to make an album of his songs, The only time he had the chance to get in a studio was back in the early 90's and made one demo that he gave me.

  • Talk about memories. I love this old cat. Second avenue just ain't the same.

  • hahah didn't mean to copy the name man you rock

  • Before Google he was the best music search engine. If you knew a couple of words or a few notes he could tell you who wrote the song, when they wrote it, the backstory and then he would play it for you. Amazed at his recall I gave him $100 one night. I wish I had made this into a routine.

As individuals we don't support our buskers, painters and poets like we should. Many of us pay $100/month for cable TV, and nearly nothing a year for local artists like Velvet Thunder.

    Thanks for posting.

  • One very cool Cat.

  • RIP Velvet

  • Velvet passed away November 16th 2009. He will be sorely missed on the streets of Nashville....

  • He is a sweet guy. I totally agree Eli..

I'm Irish but I lived in Nashville throughout the nineties. One of my great memories is shootin' the breeze with Velvet."Ah,my Irish friend" Before we would talk have a few laughs,he would sing an Irish ditty or two.He always played 2nd ave, outside The Spagetti Factory.I am delighted to find this video on youtube.Well done! Good to see Velvet still going. This video was posted 11 months ago but I'm sure he's still in good health.
