@matty23211 Right after the end of world war 2, all japanese schools by law had to have romaji classes (i'm not sure they call it that). Every person who went to school in japan since the end of WWII didn't necessarily learn full english but they all know how to write kanji in roman letters and they all know at least a few popular english tourists phrases such as "thank you." and "you're welcome" etc
