Richard "Popcorn" Wylie was one of Motown's earliest artists, with a run of three successful singles, "Custer's Last Stand", "Money That's What I Want", and "Real Good Lovin'". He was, even more significantly, the very first head of A&R for Motown Records, making him, after Smokey, one of Berry's very first executives. After leaving Motown, throughout the 1960s, he wrote and produced for hundreds of Detroit artists, as well as owning several different labels, and subsequently became a true hero of the Northern Soul scene. His solo outings such as "Rosemary What Happened", and "Lost Time", were huge favourites, and at Wigan Casino, this song performed here, "Rosemary What Happened", became a sort of icon, and featured very heavily in the 1976 Granada TV show, "This England". His production of The Platters on "With This Ring" was a massive worldwide hit. In 1971, he rejoined Motown and had a hit with "Funky Rubber Band". We recorded lots of material for him on Motorcity, and I co-wrote stuff with him for The Contours, The Elgins, and many many others. We released two singles on Popcorn, "Love Is My Middle Name", and "See This Man In Love". This is our re-recording of his massive Northern Soul smash, originally influenced by the 1960s film "Rosemary's Baby".
