The thing Elway's Broncos of the 80's never got enough credit for was how good their defenses were. They made it to three Super Bowls because defensively, they were usually pretty damn good. People talk about Belichick and rightfully so. He didn't learn his defensive theories from Parcells. He learned them from JOE COLLIER, the defensive coordinator for those 80s Broncos When Elway's teams were mediocre on D, the Broncos were mediocre ('88, '90, '92). Every other year ('83-'92), they were good.
