Sensei Kelly Hunter of the University of Kansas Judo Club demonstrates Yoko-shiho-gatame (side four corners hold) to Kata Gatame

NOTES Grab the inner part of your left leg, and leave the leg stationary (pivoting on the knee) as you step out/back with the right leg. shift your weight back onto the heel of your left leg to elongate the Uke's torso and put pressure on his carotid artery.

  • Just wow is all I can say

  • @UmDiaEuFicoBom Good on you man. Judoka and bjj guys are two sides of the same coin.

  • @UmDiaEuFicoBom well said and i do agree, most of the stuff is the same.. I am fortunate to have an instructor who is versed in both naga waza and katame waza. i just think its funny how other martial arts ( the newer ones) try to pawn off moves and put a new name on them. case in point bjj with judo.. judo moves have the same name as Japanese jiu jitsu moves, since judo is a blend of japanese jiu jitsu. There isnt alot of back and forth there. The give and take is judo and bjj.

  • @Iightbreaker Well, I never learned this set up when I was a judo white belt...

Honestly I don`t waste my time with this incredibly silly judo vs bjj argument. That`s why I practice both.

Good techniques are worth learning regardless of who came up with them. If you practice both arts, you`ll realize they complete each other and have different things to teach you, despite having the same origin.

  • @UmDiaEuFicoBom this is white belt stuff in judo lol. The japs always make the flashy bjj stuff simple. o wait bjj came from judo, so i guess the bjj just makes judo more flashy... ya thats it...

  • yes an anaconda choke is a type of arm triangle choke

  • Great stuff! Very unusual set up. I`m gonna try it in my next BJJ or in y next judo class.

    Thanks a lot.

  • nice technique, thanks

  • its kind of like a anaconda choke

  • good video and good explination congratulationes

    and HI from MEXICO
