This is a response to a request from Dick Miles, the English concertina player, (dickmilesmusic) and a number of others who have asked me about my right hand technique. it's basically a very simple 2 finger style with the index playing most of the melody on upstrokes and the thumb droning the 5th string. In addition I use downstroke brushes with the other fingers, drop thumbing where necessary, and various left-hand plucks, pull-offs and hammer-ons. I've used Jesse James, a fairly straightforward tune, to try and demonstrate. The video has been slowed down in the second half in an effort to show the finger movements. I hope this is of help Dick...

  • Sounds great!

  • thans very much

  • Great job John !! This is very similar to Pete Seege'rs method shown in his instructional book . It makes for a very clean sound and in the rythum of traditional clawhammer . Great adding the slow motion bit .. All the best , Guy
