This mountain is located in Japan between the cities of Shizuoka and Yaizu. I climbed this mountain with three teachers from the elementary school where I work. The climb was made to examine the terrain and plan the course for a later climb with our school's fifth grade class. Such outings are a common and popular event with grade school children who are taken outdoors to learn about nature and enjoy the changing seasons. My thanks to senseis Watanabe, Mochizuki and Sugiyama for inviting me along on this fun and interesting outing.

  • Actually, there are some cicadas at the end :P

  • Hello wonderwallmusic, Yes, there were a few just at the end. This was notable at the time as the teachers and I were talking about how we had heard only a few cicadas at the end of the hike. You have a good ear! -Kurt :-)

  • Thank you! I am fascinated by cicadas and the noise they make, especially ミンミンゼミ. I am a musician, so maybe that is why I hear things like that!

  • Hello wonderwallmusic, Thanks for watching and commenting. I do agree that the specially tuned mind of the artist or musician is able to perceive the world in ways others cannot. Thanks for sharing some of your insight with us. -Kurt

  • sumimasen, gomenasai! (Excuse me, I'm sorry! That's the few phrases in Japanese I know - perfect for me since I am sure I will offend people if I ever visit. TheJapanChannel says blowing your nose in public is rude! Yikes, I'm already in trouble! :)

Anyway, no need to apologize so profusely to me. I'm nobody special. Besides, it was my inability to understand that was at fault.

So you are going to make 3rd graders do that trek? This is the reason Asia will be taking over the world soon. :)

  • Hello LivingDog94, Thanks for your understanding and nice comments. I really appreciate that you have taken the time to watch a few of my videos and our dialogue today will certainly help me to improve them.

It is a bit rude to blow one's nose in public though I do sometimes see people doing this.

The hike will actually be for the fifth grade class who are a group of real troopers! This hike is actually mild compared to what kid's did back in the good old days when my wife was a kid. -Kurt

  • No more cicadas singing in the trees...

  • Hello LivingDog94, I'm sorry if my use of the word abandoned was misleading. Whoever owns (yet chooses to not tend) these fields probably would not care if a few leaves were harvested; however, like you I would rather admire than take without permission something that was not mine. I will try to be clearer in my descriptions in the future and I apologize again for any confusion. -Kurt :-)

  • I wasn't suggesting theft. When you said "abandoned" I thought you meant it had no owner. Yeah, so hands off! :)
