This is terrible quality shot on my Powershot but I figure, SOME Ian Tyson is better than NO Ian Tyson, right? One of my favorite groups from the 60's Ian & Sylvia, I used to be friends with his amazing guitar player, Monte Dunn when they played The Golden Bear in the 60's in Orange County. I shot this on my still camera at Joe's Pub in New York City this summer. Ian is still the handsomest guy I now, as a former rodeo star, has evolved back to his roots as cowboy poet.

As Ian says, Judy Collins helped him build his ranch in Alberta with her wonderful version of Some Day Soon!

  • speaking of Monte Dunn, whatever happened to him? I met him just after he joined I and S in 1963-64 and he was great...

  • Monte just disappeared. Ian told me he passed away last year. What a great flatpicker. I'm so glad I posted this video, I thought twice (don't think twice) cause it's such low quality, but it does make me smile. Ian says Judy Collins version of this song built his ranch! He always was and still is, one of the handsomest men I ever met

  • Thanks for this. Do you remember when this Joe's Pub concert was?

  • It was summer, like August I think of last year. He was so cool.

  • @Schlockumentaries Monte was living in NW Connecticut last I knew about 20 years ago or so when I last spoke with him. He wrote a column for the local paper back then. Great picker.

  • Yeah! My brother went to Mariposa this weekend to see Ian (and Sylvia?) and Gordon Lightfoot. Funny: I was just looking at your card today!

  • Yes, ANY Ian Tyson is better than NO Ian Tyson! I am SO with you on this ... Thanks for posting ...

  • Some Ian is always better than no Ian. But still, watching him do Four Strong Winds in this video makes me cry. There will never be another Ian.

  • Thank you! Ian & Sylvia were simply the best of the 1960's - their harmony was unmatched. And, yes - some Ian is better than no Ian.

  • Thank you!!!

  • Thanks so much for posting this. I was at this show and intended to bring my camera but forgot. This is a treat! By the way the date of this show was July 25, 2008 - a Friday night.
