This started out as a nice, relaxing Sunday morning run up to the peak of Sandia mountain---and ended four hours later as I watched my GTI ease off the back of a flatbed at the local dealership. Apparently the "mechatronic" unit in my DSG transmission decided to cash in on it's factory recall just before I reached the top. You can hear it give up the ghost with a loud metallic "CLACK" at 4:38. This was my first run to the top (almost) and the first time using my motorsports herocam, so it's really not all that exciting. Once I'm familiar with the road I'll really be able to increase my overall speed. Up until the transmission ate itself she was running like a champ.

My takeaway from this experience: it's worth every penny to pay for "AAA Plus" service. Every single penny.

  • at least you sped up the video so you look fast...bummer about the tranny

  • I didn't speed anything up, what you see is real time. The 170 deg. wide angle lens on the camera tends to make things near the edge of frame appear to move quicker than what's straight ahead.
