You also forgot the Singer Building (1908-1968) which towered 186m (612 ft) and then Metropolitan Life Tower (first part completed in 1893, the building of the tower started in 1905 and finished in 1909), which held the record of 213m (700 ft) in 1909. Unlike the Singer Building which was demolished the Metropolitan Life Tower still stands over 100 years later.

Nope. Both 40 Wall Street and The Chrysler Building held the record in 1930. 40 Wall Street on held the record for a month. Chryslter Building held the record for a year, until Empire State Building was finished in 1931.

Forgetting such an Art Deco masterpiece as the Chrysler Building is unforgivable as far as I am concerned. 40 Wall Street is nowadays refered to as the Trump Building.

  • @RRaquello Very shortly ahead, the Woolworth Building would be constructed (1913) and it would be the tallest in the world, until the Empire State Building in 1931.

  • Great video!!It`s very interesting to watch it.

  • Cool!

  • This is not a Lumiere brothers film but a film produced for Edison Manufacturing Co. by Wallace McCutcheon. The brothers stated that ''the cinema is an invention without any future'' and declined to sell their camera to other filmmakers, consequently, their role in the history of film was exceedingly brief.

  • I think at this time, the Park Row building was the tallest in the world. It was at one time. I pass by it every day at work.

  • Castle Clinton in now well inland.

  • Yes it's Park Row alright. Not a beautiful building by any measure but it's unusual design is part of its charm.

  • Seems like the Park Row building in the right of the picture at 00:20

    It still stands today...
