Windsbacher Knabenchor

Arie, sopran und echo-Sopran

Sopran: Juliane Banse

Knabensopran (boy treble): Martin Dürr

Flöst, mein Heiland, flöst dein Namen,
Auch den allerkleinsten Samen
Jenes strengen Schreckens ein?
Nein, du sagst ja selber nein! (Nein!)
Sollt ich nun das Sterben scheuen?
Nein, dein süßes Wort ist da!
Oder sollt ich mich erfreuen?
Ja, du Heiland sprichts selbst ja! (Ja!)

English translation:

Flößt, mein Heiland, flößt dein Namen/Does your name instil, my saviour, does it instil
Auch den allerkleinsten Samen/Even the tiniest seed
Jenes strengen Schreckens ein?/Of that fierce terror?
Nein, du sagst ja selber nein. (Nein!)/No, you yourself say (No!)
Sollt ich nun das Sterben scheuen?/Shall I now be afraid of death?
Nein, dein süßes Wort ist da!/No, your sweet word is there!
Oder sollt ich mich erfreuen?/Or should I rejoice?
Ja, du Heiland sprichst selbst ja. (Ja!) /Yes, you my saviour say it yourself (Yes !)

  • Please.. what is this work? I have never before heard it - and how beautiful it is!

  • @strachs100 This is Part IV of the Christmas Oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach (BWV 248 IV)

Aria [female Soprano here /boy treble in Bachs time] with Echo [treble] + Oboe solo, Continuo

  • "It is always done that way ..." Perhaps I should leave it at that, because there are many aspects of life about which the same thing is said, but that are discovered to be wrong. I believe in the integrity of the boy's voice in obbligato with an oboe da caccia, and therefore, it matters not to me what other pairing may be utilized; that said, it does seem to me that a woman's voice paired in obbligato with a modern oboe seems to be a good fit as well.

  • In my opinion it is not about right or wrong. Music is an art and there are different interpretations and ways classical music is performed. Boys voices have a different quality and a beauty of their own and I enjoy that, but I don't think it would be right if it is the only performed that way. I love diversity and those who claim they do it "historical" are often as narrow minded as their opponents. I love both.

  • Really tenoruser? If I google Marcel Ponseele, I see photos of a man that is clearly not the same person in this video...

  • @jamagaw that is Marcel Ponseele. A GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT player and musician. And with a great sense of humour too!

  • They should have credited the fantastic oboist...

  • also, that girl is almost as beautiful as the music. :)

  • the "echoing" (I'm an idiot) eg around 2:20 or so is beautiful...
