This is my first exposure to Steve Roach's first album and I think it's beautiful. There's a quality about 1980's era SR that is untouchable. Even though the quality of the synths are dated by today's standards, there's just something so inspired and spiritual about these recordings. (Now, Structures..., Empetus, Dreamtime..., etc.)

I love Steve Roach, he really takes me there. This is really good meditation music; music to develop presence and peace of mind and body. Breath, go within, and connect to the source of your being, and then ground completely into your body down into the center of Mother Earth.

@Icowom In the case of Steve Roach it's the combination of analogue synths that he used (and still does) and the recording equipment of the time. Everything is a little faded and distant sounding.

It does bring the question though...just what makes 80's synthesisers that particular...sound over the current ones?

i prefer the sound of the old 80s synth over the polished crisper sound of modern synths ...theres a smoothness to the 80s sound.
