On 26 December 2004 an earthquake off the coast of Indonesia triggered a massive tsunami which left nearly 230,000 people dead or missing and another 2 million homeless.

While the world's focus has largely moved on, the children and families living in the wake of the tsunami still face a long road to recovery. Save the Children has moved from carrying out emergency relief to helping families rehabilitate and reconstruct their communities.

Thanks to the generosity of people around the world, our work has benefited hundreds of thousands of individuals, the majority of whom are children, in over 1,000 towns and villages affected by the tsunami.

  • This is amazing. I am only 11 years old, but I am truly gratful to you, for helping these children in their time of need. I know that if I was ever caught in such a disaster, I would only survive by the hands of people like you. God Bless You
