Figure-8 Cast On on 2 Circular Needles

A demonstration of the figure-8 cast on for two circular needles. This cast on is frequently use for knitting toe-up socks, top-down hats, and any other circular knitting where a seamless end is desired.

@kjmoonchile I usually do my toes where I increase 4 sts every round until I have roughly half of the total sts I expect to need for the circumference of the foot. Then I increase 4 sts every other round. For my size 9.5 feet for most fingering weight yarns I generally need in the realm of 72 sts (I like my socks knit ~9 sts/in) so I'd increase on every round until I had 36 sts total (18 sts per circ) and then increase only every other round.

Hi! Your video is easy to understand, but I'm still having problems. Isn't it supposed to make a tube? Mine turns out as a flat piece of fabric between two circs. I cast on and then knit the first round with the other needle's sts on its cable. Then I slide the knitted sts onto the cable and slide the unknitted sts onto their needle and knit them. Am I supposed to join somehow? What am I doing wrong? Thank you!

@HorseKnits It sounds as thought you are knitting in correctly. It takes several rounds before it starts to look like a pouch and even then it won't appear like that unless you kind of fold it and hold the cable of the resting needle up against the active needle. You'll want to do that once you've worked 2-4 rnds as that helps snug up where the two needles meet.

Cab I use this cast on to knit two socks at once on two circular needles? I like to knit a pair of socks at one time so I don't have to pay that much attention to counting rows. Thanks.

Thanks a lot for posting this video. I pass the wool or thread from my right hand too, a technique that I inherited from my mother.

Most of all the other videos present the wool passed from the left hand which must be great for the left-hand people though!!!
