In an interview with Geo News anchor Hamid Mir, aired on January 7, 2012, Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari repeated his claim that he tried to revive Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) twice.
First attempt was made with proposed induction of aircraft in PIA fleet but then Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin said that business plan for the airline should be prepared first which delayed proposed induction of the aircraft and with the passage of time prices of aircraft increased in the market and the airline was not able to induct aircraft.
Second attempt was made with proposed codeshare agreement between PIA and Turkish Airlines. But the proposed codeshare agreement between PIA and Turkish Airlines had to be abandoned due to protests/strikes by PIA employees/unions.
Here's how competition is being met:
Eastern Express CEO, Alex de Vos " effectively create a premium short-haul service that will cater to those who prefer not to ride with the cattle class in existing (and successful) low-cost, short-haul carriers like Air Arabia and FlyDubai but would still like the efficiency of a small aircraft carrier."
Seeing picture from other side-Turkish Airline wants to play in Pakistan.
