Chapter Two: In and Out~ Part Two

After breakfast Mary, Sophia, and Kate chilled out for a while, chatting about random things.

Mary: Sophia, why didn'’t you decide to send in college applications? You’'d get into a really good school with the grades you got.
Sophia: ‘Cause, I wanted to stay here. I don'’t think I’'m ready for college. A few days ago a got a part-time job at the animal shelter, but it doesn’'t start for a few months.
Kate: A few months?
Sophia: Yeah, someone’'s leaving the force then, and at the moment they don’'t need any help. Meanwhile, I decided to volunteer at the zoo every few days. I’'m feeding elephants, deer, and prairie dogs.
Mary: OhMiGosh! Lucky!
Kate: Sneak a little petting in. If they’'ll let you get close enough with THAT B.O.
Sophia: Oh yeah? When was the last time you took a shower?
Kate: *smiling proudly* This morning.
Sophia: Better get a stronger shower ‘cause I can'’t tell one bit that you have.
Mary: Riiight...… you, like Joe, need to work on your jokes.
Sophia: Don’'t you dare insult the JoeBro!
Kate: *stifling laughter* What about his JoeHawk?
Mary & Kate: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Sophia: *mutters under breath* I didn’'t know Kate was familiar with Joe’'s hair names...…
Kate: *hears Sophia* Ohhh, I know a lot of things you don’'t know I know because your knowledge knows simple bounds.
Mary: Confusing.
Sophia: Wha?
Kate: Exactly. *smirks*
Sophia: Brain… overload…... ahhh! *fakes fainting*
Mary: Sweet... *giggles*
Mary & Kate: *high five*

For lunch the three ordered pizza and watched kids T.V. shows, laughing about them. It was something they’'d done since they first became friends. Later, it was finally time for the party to start. Jonas Brothers songs dominated the music from Mary’'s iTunes list. The girls danced crazily and laughed for a while. Then came cake and ice cream, and after that, it was time for the presents.

Mary: OMG! I can’t wait! Sophia, I’'m guessing you’re going to make me wait until it’'s the last gift?
Sophia: Hmm, I hadn’'t thought of that. Good idea!
Mary: *groans* Whatever.
Kate: Mine first!

Kate hands Mary a small, silver box with a blue bow, which Mary sticks on Sophia.

Mary: Keep it on all night. It’'s your punishment for being mean.
Sophia: How is this punishment?
Kate: It REALLY messes up your outfit.

Everyone laughs as Mary opens the box, revealing a silver necklace with a beautiful dragonfly-shaped sapphire, cut amazingly well.

Mrs. Rennay: It’'s so beautiful!
Kate: Thanks!
Sophia: Wow!
Kate: I knew you'd say that.
Mr. Rennay: How much was THAT?
Kate: You don't wanna know!
Mary: Oh my gosh… it'’s amazing; thank you a million times Kate!
