St. Paul, Minn. (Dec. 2, 2009) The Metro Council held two Asian Employment and Business Opportunity sessions regarding the Central Corridor Light Rail Transit Project on Dec. 2 at Hoa Bien Restaurant in St. Paul.
The events included an array or presentation to highlight what the Disadvantage Business Enterprise (DBE) program is and how firms may become DBE certified. The sessions also offered minority-owned businesses and job seekers an event to learn how to obtain a role in the projects construction, which will begin in late summer 2010.
The Metropolitan Council has an 18 percent workforce goal for hiring minorities and a 6 percent workforce goal for hiring women interested in construction and the building trades. The Met Council will be setting DBE goals by contract for the projects construction phase. The project has a 17 percent goal for the engineering and environmental phases.
The Metropolitan Council, Vietnamese Social Services, Center for Asian Pacific Islanders, Southeast Asian Refugee Community Home Center, Chinese American Business Association Minnesota, Lao Family Center and United Cambodian Association of Minnesota are sponsoring the sessions.
