This was a large flash flood that hit the Wahweap Drainage basin on 8.8.2010. A few inches of rain fell and sent this flood down the wash. You can see how fast the flood intensifies after it comes through.

Original footage is HD 1080i. Please contact David@rankinstudio.com for rates.

Cheers,

  • @charlietow

A few of my friends tried that in a smaller one... didn't work out very well. Logs, rocks, mud. Broken kayaks and muddy eyes.

  • where did this water come from??

  • @670chris076

Read the comment above (uploader comments). Same question was asked. :)

  • Why does this happen, where does this water is not raining? This is a tsunami, it is very wonderful! Man, how nice! You should not cut the film in half, shooting enough.

  • @pertencoacristo

These floods happen because intense rainfall hits the drainage basin many miles up stream. The creek is usually dry. A big thunderstorm can dump a few billions of gallons of water in less than 2 hours. All of this water is then sent cascading down the wash and shows up how you see it in the video.

I edit the film down to limit size and give a good preview of the best parts. I have over 30 minutes of video from this flood.

    Cheers,

    David Rankin

  • LOL, skip to 1:00.

The water is chasing, trying to eat the CAMERA!!

  • looks like a McDonalds Mcflurry

  • It doesn't matter if those kids think they are on solid rock or not, that water could be eroding the under belly of the area they are standing on. Very dangerous.

  • @rankinstudio ouch!

  • This reminds me of how our lives shouldn't be taken granted, cause they can easily slip beneath the depths.

  • wow
