There's a lot more to it than the label on the headstock. He uses a weird string combination: GHS Boomers (electric strings) with heavy strings on the E and A, mediums on the D and G, and lights on the B and E. That he is one of the cleanest pickers with one of the best right hands ever doesn't hurt.

i read somewhere (i think the flatpick guitar mag interview) that he also changes the position of his high E to cater to his playing better. the things you learn by playing for 60 years or so is kinda crazy.
