Business at the Butler Street Foundry is horrible. In the once-vibrant metal shop just a few tailgates away from U.S. Cellular Field where the White Sox play, you can now hear just one worker welding his way toward a paycheck.
Workers at the foundry have been grinding and sanding, welding and polishing their way through tough times in this South Side metal shop for almost 120 years. Recently shop owner John Lamonica has been scrambling to keep the cash flowing at a trickle.
