The BBC programme 'Real Rescues' follows the voluntary work of the charity BASICS Hampshire. Dr Paul Rees and Dr Chris Hill treat a man with life threatening anaphylactic shock.

    Patient: Arghh, my chest is exploding!

    Doctor: That's medication.

  • @ChrisH133878 It is. A bolus of IV Adrenaline 1:10,000 is a specialist BASICS skill; for extremely severe reactions. It's often the only option left, when the shock's too severe for the slow IM route.

    But yes, it can cause some distressing effects.

  • Please tell me that the reference at 3:08 is not indicating that he got 0.5mg of IV adrenaline stat, or even a bit quick????? If so, no wonder he had chest pain. It would be interesting to see what his ECG was doing after that dose!!!!!!
