you know who divides things in neat boxes? christians. duality of good and evil, heaven, hell, etc. ofc that is not what christians like to believe these days, so they come up with a bag of excuses why committing certain sins is ok (such as gluttony, adultery and theft among most common). by their rationale ill just stay a sinful non believer and on my deathbed ill accept god as my personal savior just in case.
Jeff, you don't think that Jesus woudl be "wishy-washy" about his views, but IMHO the trouble is that most people are so "wishy-washy" about their view of the terms "liberal" vs. "conservative". If you Google "liberalslikeChrist definitions", you'll find the site where I show how meaningful these terms can be when applied to both religion and politics and why it is so important for his followers to be "Liberals Like Jesus" .
Jesus was neither liberal or conservative because he did not believe in politics and he said that politics only divides the people rather than unites them. To make any biased claim that Jesus was liberal or conservative is absolutely arrogance and I think offensive. All you people keep bickering about this stupid ass left vs right paradigm which is an out right lie. Get it straight people, Jesus was above politics and even spoke against different church denominations.
I think that great many "conservatives" are liberal in love. To love our neighbors means to tell them the truth no matter what, and show them love unconditionally. It seems to me that there is hope for conservatives to be corrected by God, but there may not be a chance of correcting a liberal who questions the Bible.
i think a vast majority of christians do not fully fit the definition of conservative or liberal theologies. jesus would not be pro choice i believe. he would have us imitate his humility but be unmerciful to evil the second it tries to take advantage. he would HATE the behavior of the dogmatic, judgmental, bigoted christian conservatives and he would HATE the behavior of indecisive liberals who pick and choose from the bible, and who are too tolerant and weak against the opposition of christ.
Liberals are liberal (generous) with their love. Conservatives conserve their love. The whole message of Jesus and the bible is to be liberal with your love.
You know who says "don't categorize"? conservatives that don't want to label Jesus as a liberal.
