Have you ever tried to play Q with lower gamma/brightness during the champ? This vid is likely dedicated to multiplayer gaming rather than to single-.

I believe there was an addon called QuakeWorld that allowed people to play it online with remarkable ease. I also think that there are a few servers still up... and watching this makes me want to go back all over again.
