Watch a side by side comparison of the same retaining wall being backfilled with soil versus InsulFoam GF Geofoam. The wall that is backfilled with soil must be over excavated back at least as far as the height of the wall. 1 layer of block and then 1 layer of structural fill that must be tested for proper compaction makes for a very expensive and time consuming construction process.

InsulFoam GF Geofoam allows for a much more shallow excavation, much faster backfill process and reduces or eliminates lateral pressures upon the wall. Simply stack the blocks, hand place a lightweight block of Geofoam, and then fill the area in between the block and the native soil with granular fill.

Geofoam not only allows much faster construction, but it also eliminates all of the heavy equipment and logistical problems with getting soil in a backyard or up on a hillside. It also eliminates much of the risk that is involved with these types of walls because when properly designed Geofoam doesn't induce the loads like soil does that may eventually push the wall over.

Please contact geofoam@insulfoam.com if you would like to discuss this concept further or would like us to consult with you on a project.
