A company let my Identity get stolen about a decade ago and a car was bought in my name. Anyways a credit collector attempted these tactics with me. My brother a lawyer had me record the calls. We sued & I won a harassment case and I was awarded and paid quite handsomely. Filing for bankruptcy was required. Today in 2012 I have a nice house with no payment & a better car with no payment & still have money.
So sue these companies whenever you can, get them cause look at their poor ethics.

@crazyknight2008 In these times we all have to do what we can, but in case you didn't know, the negotiation to lower your settlement bruises your credit more than paying the full amount. The reason you got the lower payment was because the collections agency BOUGHT your debt from your original creditor for less than what you owed. Therefore they did not need to recoup the full amount owed to break even or make a profit on your debt.

@AlexanderRozhenko Except that not all debt is from frivolous spending like that. Lots of people carry heavy medical debt. Should they deny themselves or even their children life-saving medical care because they can't pay for it?
