I like that sign name but I don't know if he will make big difference in the future.

No, there usually isn't an "agreed upon" name for names. It's usually a sign chosen by the person themself, or their friends and it will have something to do with that individual. My sign name is an "S" next to the chin for Shari, but someone else with the same name may have something different.

Ok, but is the name sign universal, or is it made up by the speaker on the fly? I mean there can't possibly be a name sign for every surname.

Generally the first time you mention them you spell their name so people know who you're talking about, then you use their name sign immediately afterwards to clue the person you're talking to into the sign you use for them.. .then from that point onward you will use the name sign.

are you deaf?

Which is when Name Signs are used.

When talking about people, do you spell their names? Isn't that time consuming compared to other parts of the sentence which have their own signs?

This is a bit off topic, but I was given the sign name "K with middle finger touching temple" because my name is John Kennedy. I was curious if this is also John F. Kennedy's sign name, or if he has one? I like that sign name for Obama, but I think it's best to wait and see what he does for this country before assigning him a name like "O future" because we don't know yet if he will make a major impact. I'm hearing so it's not really my place to say, so I'm just throwing my two cents in.

I was replying to a person asking about different signs around that we have seen for Obama (Deaf people like him so much he gets his own name sign, something very few presidents in history have accomplished). In this video I just showed the name sign that is used at the Deaf Institute (school) my mom was working at a few months back.
