*This is NOT ACTUAL GAMEPLAY FOOTAGE! (although i severely wish it is) It is just a prerendered video that LOOKS like gameplay.
Well, our final for video game design class required us to come up with a game premise, mine was a streamlined 'ATB' (or 'active time battle') style RPG, with some light action elements.
I noticed that most Action RPG mixes were more action oriented, with the RPG elements sitting in the background, so I decided to do it the other way.
So at its core, it's an RPG, but you still need the reflexes an action genera requires to be successful at the game. Some elements that require said reflexes are blocking ([0:36] blocking is done in real time, but it depletes your ATB bar!) and counter attacking ([0:38]quick time event... sorry! Apparently its cool and hipsterlike to hate quick time events nowadays).
Also, this game enables you to actively walk around the battlefield, and your placement is very important. If you have a melee weapon, you better get in close or you won't do any damage [0:48]. Vice-versa for a ranged weapon: if the opponent is in your face, you won't do much damage, so you better back up[0:30].
I also brought in the concept of Supplements, an item that you can equip to boost different abilities, the example used in this video was to give my weapon a fire element[0:57].
The big red thing you see get set up is a giant energy shield / barrier. Once the enemies see you, that trap you in the bubble, making it unable to escape until you either kill all enemies, or destroy the little machine that is emitting the barrier. That being said, you can use stealth to gain a preemptive strike, or avoid the conflict entirely (but you would miss out on experience)
I can go on and on about all the mechanics and the story (the main character's name is Leigh Constal!), but I will leave it at that. I hope you enjoy it!
@ImSuchaGamer glad u liked it! Any critiques?
