So there I was, lost in Qingdao, China. We were looking for an Italian restaurant we had read about in a magazine, but couldn't find it. While the group was discussing whether to go left or right, I pulled out my camera and took this video. We eventually found the restaurant, and Katie and I shared a bowl of gnocchi. But we talked about the timed traffic lights every day for the rest of our vacation. What a great idea. We all think they should have these in the USA. Then when you're coming up on a distant green light that only has 2 seconds left, you can slow down early. And when you're waiting at a red light, you know they haven't forgotten about you, and you have something to look at while you count backwards from 85... I like it!
I would rather have actuated signals that only extend the green (and therefore red) portions of the cycle when necessary. Therefore, there is no predetermined amount of time and no way to countdown.
