Jesse Helms' infamous thirty second commercial showing a pair of white hands crumpling a job rejection letter as a narrator says:
"You needed that job, and you were the best qualified, but they had to give it to a minority, because of a racial quota. Is that really fair? Harvey Gantt says it is. Gantt supports Ted Kennedy's racial quota law that makes the color of your skin more important than your qualifications. Your vote on this issue next Tuesday. For racial quotas, Harvey Gantt. Against racial quotas, Jesse Helms."

I may be a Republican, but Jesse Helms was one of the most vile and depraved politicians of the second half of the twentieth century. There's a special place for people like him.
Will Rogers is supposed to have said, "It's not the things you don't know that are the problem, it's the things you know that aren't so." (Or something like that.)
Gravy2468, you know a lot of things that aren't so. Helms didn't fight to prevent AIDS research, though he did make the very reasonable point that the amount of gov't research $ should have some relationship to the number of affected victims, not just their political clout. Nor did he ever make racist ads, nor lie about Gantt.
Right on man, Jesse Helms was right. If only we had someone like Jesse Helms in the White House now to end Racial Quotas...the color a person's skin should be more important than someone's qualifications. I can't see anyone voting for that tax and spend Liberal Harvey Gantt.
Jesse Helms was a dillweed, and an embarrassment to North Carolina as well as America. I'm glad that asswipe is long gone. It's guys like him that gets the South mocked by the rest of the country, even though they are sometimes guilty of holding the same views as he.
Barack Obama is a DILLWEED and an embarrassement to this whole nation by denying qualified people like me jobs just because we don't fill a big government racial quota, the kind of thing that Jesse Helms fought so hard against!. it wwill be a great day when Barack Obama and others of his ilk leave high political office and go the way of the playpus. Affirmative Action belongs in the dustpin of history. I guess you are secure in your employment and not being denied because you don't fill a quota?
Sounds like someone who believes in the "oppression of the ruling class" fairytale that is forcefed by the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck, and Sean Hannity. If you believe that Affirmative Action myth, you probably also believe that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, that the congress presiding over most of G. W. Bush's presidency was competent, and that Sarah Palin is a credible candidate. Who mentioned Obama? Dillweed.
