Deal, New Jersey (about five minutes from Long Branch).
These houses were begun around 2005. When I shot the video in the summer of 2008, only one had been rented. The rest were unsold, and some weren't even finished because the builders went bust.
The whole block ism now deserted.

  • this is totally bizarre..i live in canada..i am in awe and bewilderment of the amount of abandoned places in the USA..what happened? I am not being saracastic when i ask this..i do find it sad yet fascinating..

  • @rhymeandreasoning Developers built the houses with a subprime loan, nobody wanted to buy them, and the builder went bust, leaving one house uunfinished.

  • what a waste i wnt to buy that house and finish it it lol. i would have myself a preety good house

  • I'd wager you could get it cheap. But there's probably back taxes on it.

Also, you'd be alone there. You don't want to be the only resident in a block of empty houses.

There's no shortage of houses for sale in Deal, Elberon, and Long Branch.

  • hey, what road is that near?

  • I think it's called Red Oaks Drive, but I'm not sure. I remember the houses were off Highland Avenue or Norgrove Place.

  • They deforrested 33 acres of trees and removed the whole top layer of top soil to build this travesty. It was a huge fight that the local community lost to the developers . Some of the crooked politicians etc...involved went to jail . It's their Karma that this whole thing went bust but it's the city of Long Branch that really lost it's last large tract of undeveloped land in the southern end of town.At one time the Audubon Society used to hold the annual bird count on this property how sad.

  • People actually live there now and this is Elbron/Long Branch, Deal is alittle further down.

    >>>>>>>>>>>"Also, you'd be alone there."

And there will never be anything wrong with that, you jackass.

    >>>>>>>>>>>"You don't want to be the only resident in a block of empty houses."

You don't get to decide what others want! Dammit, when the heck will people learn?!?

  • omg i was in longbranch lots of tmes

  • This doesn't happen in the UK becuase of evil council tax, live in it or not you still have to pay. This is also why we don't see empty factories for very long, they just get demolished. Another reason not to be here.

  • Is there a number to city hall there about taking one of these properties over and finishing it

  • I wonder if that crook Dwek was involved in the financing gone bust? Makes sense.
