its there for 2 things, and one of them you did not say. its called a blood groove because when you bery it into sombody their muscles tighten really hard around it, and that groove fills up with AIR and makes and AIR pockets, allowing you to pull it out easier. i have the same modle right after it was remodeled in WW2. leather stacked washers, love it. the other purpose is to lighten it and give it better balance

@DarkheartTheHeritic Majority of people like strait blades rather then serrated , the strait is badass and will last forever.. Even the short is an excellent knife if your lookin for something a bit smaller but still does work
