i have to say, this is my new favorite channel. not only for the fact that while ive done some of these operations already i still learn a lot of things from each video. im so glad there is a resource like you around for those of us who dont have an old machinist hanging around down the block.

I have another idea, wich may be mentioned: When you finished the Thread and you are turning backwards, just before it's out the hole, remove the tap holder and turn the last two or three turns by hand. That prevents the tap and the thread from beeing damaged. Tubalcain, i really like your videos. Especially those about casting aluminium. But it may take a really long time to watch all of them. So i got to do something for the next few years. So long for now ;) Julian from Germany

When I was turning wrenches, I purchased a complete set of tap holders that attach to your ratchet. They were from Marco. They can be difficult to use because you don't apply pressure on both sides, but they do cone in handy. Thanks for the great videos. I've only been a machinist for three years. I've learned everything from my father in law who was a machinist for 41 years.

Great videos! Have you come across the spiral taps for aluminium? They have no flutes and look very much like a normal bolt, but to turn them inbetween your fingers it feels like it is slightly triangular, which would suggest it is a deformation tool. I triied one and it worked great in rolled alumium!

Yes--have used them. Very little in the way of chips.

Mission impossible.

What about EDM? I did that some times before. even carbide cutters.

Never used EDM. I know it will work, but few have EDM. A carbide drill might work.
