Well, look at Masahiro Andoh's Guitar on Japanese Soul Brothers (1985). Notice he uses a Roland Guitar Synth to solo with.

Masato's awesome! He's always been wonderful with technique and rhythm, only second to Michael Brecker!

its the EWI from the 1990s, the 3020. its not the virtual analog synthesis like the crappy 4000, or soft synth from the computer, but true, warm voltage controlled analog synth
