  • @exarmydoc Whatever...all in all a marine is a rifleman first...an army soldier is...well, it depends....but odds are they'd be in a rear echelon duty.

  • impressive how army of US decide to go to foreign nation. amazing how they did there. it must have been very confusing for american sodliers to know what they are saying. Greetings from Poland : )

  • @hapajin The Marine Corps believed the tactic of direct frontal assault was the only way to go at an enemy. On Peleliu, that kind of thinking got 6500 Marines of the First Marine Division killed or wounded. ist Marine Division was withdrawn from Peleliu and the Army's81t Infantry Division completed the conquest of the island.

  • @hapajin The issue on Saipan was not any difference between Army and Marine Corps doctrine. The "brilliant" HM Smith was unaware that the 27th ID, which he had rendered ubderstrength, was facing the toughest resistance in Central Saipan.

  • @exarmydoc HISTORY FAIL!

Marine General Holland Smith, still booted a Army general out, which never happened before

  • @hapajin That is the best explanation I have ever heard.

  • @exarmydoc inferiority complex.

  • @Dogmeat1950 Ralph Smith was temporarily replaced by Army General Sanford Jarman, who was on Saipan to become garrison commander once the island was secured. Sanford Jarman was replaced by Army MG George Griner. The only Marine General who commanded an Army Division was John LeJeune, who commanded the 2nd Infantry Division in WWI. Look up your Marine History.

  • @Dogmeat1950 dont forget the difference in battlefield doctrine. Marines would move past pockets of resistance and leave them for the people behind to clear up. The Army's way of doing it was to not move forward until all resistance was cleared. Also the marine general had not inspected the territory and thus did not realize that the 'slower' army units had tougher territory to move through since the japanese held the high ground. Try to brush up on ur own history before correcting others buddy.

  • @Dogmeat1950 After the gyokusai, HM Smith praised the 3/10th Marines for their courage. He called the Soldiers who actually fought and died defeating the Japanese attack "yellow cowards".
