Reading & Northern Locomotives & Horns

Out chasing the Reading & Northern PI LE from Penobscot to Jim Thorpe, PA. Good chase catching it at Crestwood, White Haven. On the down side the SD-50 # 5017 was headed south long hood out, and the horn a Nathan P-5 was a Mutt as we collectors call the P series which have old cast, and new cast bells mixed. So combinations sound nice, but the 5017s was AWFULL! Later arriving at Jim Thorpe the LEHIGH GORGE SCENIC train, an R&N. tourist operation, was leaving town with SD-50 #426 long hood out with a nice sounding Nathan K-5 LA.

The P-5 has All old bells. I assembled them. As for the K-5la......all parts are band new with exception of the #1&2 bells.

The P5 horn uses NC 1,2,3, uses the 4A bell and OC #5 to make the discord.

Wish you had more of the K5LA on the 2nd train...that did sound sweet! Must either be an old one or a brand new one to sound like that!
