it depends on what species. Most bites are harmless and they are similar to bee stings. These bites I speak of are from the new worlds species, like the B.smithi (mexican red knee) and G,rosea (rosehair)
The bites I've just mentioned to you are from what the old worlds species would do like H.lividum (cobalt blue) and Indian Ornamental (P.regalis), so that's why its good to have some exp before dealing with these. Bites are rare if you take precautions + give respect
In Greece i doubt there are any doctors who can take care of a guy bitten by a tar....no tars live here...so i guess its best to avoid being bitten :P

well I prefer not to handle any of my tars ... i only do so when its needed....like when i have to change or clean their house.
i think that tars are animals that like privacy and feel nervous when they get handled..
