I love Freni. And when she was young she had coloratura and high notes,(but not high D's or E flats that she used anyway.). She also had complete dynamic control over her voice had a ravishing pianissimo and she could decrescendo as well, something that seems to be difficult for some voices. On the whole I would agree with you that I like the lyric voices in those roles, provided they have clean coloratura... If they dont I dont listen. They dont have good technique then.
u think? i think she had good command of coloratura and her high notes sound great. plus over half of bellini writings are all among sweeping lyric lines rather than tons of blacks notes and ornamentation. personally i think the best elviras, along with adinas and violettaas, have been lyric sopranos

Freni was not a coloratura.. this was a mistake..
