I just watched the entire film and found it very enjoyable. It is one of Mary's little girl roles she was famous for, much like "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm" except it's more sentimental and touching, and Mary's character is not that mischievous. Here she is a very kind gentile girl who tries never to give up and to find something to be glad about it every situation.
I am still amazed how well she played children being in her late twenties!

Always amazed at Mary Pickford,she was extraordinary.
I actually heard that Mary Pickford though that Pollyanna was a little bit sappy,but she wanted to give her audience what they wanted to see.Poor Mary,she could have played any part and awed and amazed people with her multi faceted talents,and she got put into a "mold" of being a child.She was still awesome,I have even caught myself wanting to applaud at the end of her movies.Thank you for posting this!

Amazing how Mary Pickford made a career of mostly playing kids when she was even into her 30's. I once saw a still from this movie that showed her character over her strict aunt's knee getting a spanking, but I've read there's no such scene in the finished film. So I assume it was a publicity photo. Staged spanking publicity photos (when so such spanking scenes were in the flick) were quite popular in Hollywood's history (Father of the Bride is another example).
