On-line pole dancing tutorial: Beginner plank aka layback

Highly probable that you will be in pain :)
Don't worry, pain goes away. So grit your teeth and hang on!

For my personal practice and routine vids please visit my other channel http://www.youtube.com/user/dirdybirdy101

IMPORTANT: Please warm up before any rigorous exercise to help reduce risk of injury. Some warm ups before dancing:
- shoulder rolls
- arm swings
- head rolls and stretches
- rotate wrists and stretch them
- warm up torso by doing body rolls, torso twists
- squats, light stretches (do longer and deeper stretches AFTER a workout)
- push ups

Note: Pole dancing, like other forms of sport or physical activity, involves risk of injury. I'll try my best to provide the best advice and information to minimise these risks, however, this responsibility is ultimately yours. Take care, and don't over push yourself. Always start from the bottom and work your way up. DO NOT attempt a move that you are not ready for

  • i dont understand how you spin so much? i can only do like one or two spins and i slide down or i just stop and wont spin anymore. can u help me with this please?

  • @soccer13109 Are you using a spinning pole? Keep practicing and get stronger and you won't slide down.

  • Darnit shes cheating by using a spinning pole!

  • @Mely7060 Cheating what?

  • Ooh we learned this today, the pole burn - OH MY GOD! Hahaha :) Our instructor says it becomes less painful every time you do it, hope she's right!

You're so graceful, you make it look so easy! Beautiful job! :) xx

  • @xXpolebabyXx yea pole burn is not so nice. But it's true it does go away :)

  • I am assuming you can't get the spin on this move unless you have a spinning pole? I have a static x-pole....and now i'm kind of regretting not getting the x-pole that switches between both spinning and static. :(

  • Awesome video! :) i am just beginning to pole and so far ever being able to do that seems impossible, but i'm not planning to give up yet.

Btw, where are you from? I absolutely LOVE your accent!

  • how much money can be made in pole dancing?

  • @dirdybirdy101 no worries - just leaves me to some experimenting of my own. thanks! :)

  • @bekkbekk90 I don't remember how long it took me, sorry. It was so long ago.

  • @MissDirdyBirdy just started attempting the plank (as well as "sitting" on the pole) and wanted to know how long does the pain usually last until it goes away?? lol (i know every body is different, so how long was it for you before the pain wasn't an issue any longer?)

  • @dirdybirdy101 i agree - but i wish i could switch between those looks depending on my mood for the day :P that's all, haha.
