Murray Perahia is a musician's musician. The more knowledgeable you are about music, the more you realize just how great he is. He is undoubtedly one of the finest pianist out there today.

@paulostrPickingArgerich and Perahia as today's two finest living pianits isquite odd. Lupu certainly plays the same type of repertoire (German romantic) just as well as Perahia. Compare Sokolov's Chopin op. 25 Etudes to Perahia, Sokolov's recordings of German romantic repertoire, and you may see what many see - Sokolov as the other finest living pianist. One thing is for sure with Perahia - he showed limitations in Liszt and virtuoso repertoire - the Horowitz influence hurt him.

I wonder if this piece inspired Gershwin when he wrote Rhapsody in Blue. The melody is incredibly similar.

Everything is a matter of personal taste. I personally prefer the style of Claudio Arrau for this wonderful concert ( watch?v=4_ueGXdWZco )
